Being Salty and Bright

Dear Friends,

The greatest power we have is the power of influence. So often we neglect this because we don’t recognize this power. Sunday, we will learn how as you walk in the power of grace you have more influence than you ever imagined. Your righteousness will exceed all other religious systems by way of extraordinary love.  This extraordinary life of love and grace is the salt of the earth and the light of the world. You cannot help it, grace in your life will season everything it touches just like salt. When you let Jesus work in you His light will shine through you. Think about the people in your life that you have contact with. You are an influence to them. How you can be that influence is our subject this week.

Please pray for me as I seek to show you Christ riches. Please pray for and invite those in your life you can contact. Let’s learn together how to be salty and bright.

Blessings,
Joe

Mat 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

PREPARING FOR SUNDAY: SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

  • In what way are we the salt of the earth and how can we become tasteless?

Mat 5:14-15 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; (15) nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

  • What happens when Christ followers lose their distinctiveness?
  • How are we the light of the world and what is our purpose?
  • For salt or light to have an effect how must it relate to what’s around it?
  • Who do you have influence with? Why or why not?

Mat 5:16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Mat 6:1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them;

  • How can you shine in your daily life so others can see your good works but you don’t do it to be noticed?
  • Describe how you can do good works so God gets the glory?
  • What are some ways we could shine more brightly as a small group? {good works, good words, service project}
  • How can we pray for your need today?
  • In what ways, do you see yourself operating as light in the world, working to shine the light of truth and goodness into dark places? Where? How?
