HIS-Story-What To Think About Baptism

Dear Friends,

I love baptisms! Baptism is such a beautiful and joyful event to experience.

Jesus loved baptism. He insisted on it for himself. He commanded it for His followers. He used it as part of proclaiming His gospel!

With baptism such a big part of our faith, how did it get so confused and controversial?

This Sunday we will spend some time on “WHAT TO THINK ABOUT BAPTISM”

I really hope you come and can see how this simple and beautiful event must be understood and faithfully practiced. the master only gives us two practices to observe: baptism and the Lord’s supper.

Let’s learn and remember how baptism can strengthen us and Glorify God.

Can’t wait to see you.

Joe

Luke 3:21  Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, 22  and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”

Preparing for Sunday-January 19, 2020

PLEASE READ THE SCRIPTURES AND CONSIDER THE QUESTIONS. PLAN TO ATTEND A SMALL GROUP SO YOU CAN LEARN MORE.

What can reading the Greek word for Baptism teach us?

βαπτίζω

baptizō

bap-tid’-zo

From a derivative of G911; to make whelmed (that is, fully wet); used only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism: – baptist, baptize, wash.

Why would much water be required for baptism to be performed?

John 3:22 After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He was spending time with them and baptizing. 23 John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people were coming and were being baptized.

What keeps people from being baptized?

Acts 8:36-38 As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch *said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 37  [And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”] 38  And he ordered the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him.

What do you think creates so much confusion about baptism?

Describe your experiences with baptism?

How can baptism strengthen individuals and an entire congregation?

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19  “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20  teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
