Categories: Preparing for Sunday

The Pursuit of Happiness

Dear Friends,

I really pray you will come this Sunday and bring someone if you can. Please take some time to pray for myself and all the others who will serve this week. Please come as prepared as possible as we pursue happiness together.

Get ready by reading the following scriptures and asking yourself the questions before you come. Remember your greatest witness is the joy and peace of your relationship with God.

I am praying for you.

Joe

PS: Remember we will celebrate the Lords Supper Sunday morning.

STEPS TO PREPARE

PRAY FOR THE SERVICES AND FOR YOURSELF
AND ME AND THE OTHER TEACHERS.

PRAYERFULLY READ THE SCRIPTURES
AND CONSIDER THE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS.

MAKE PLANS TO ATTEND A PREACHING SERVICE AND A SMALL GROUP.

INVITE SOMEONE TO COME WITH YOU.

PREPARING FOR SUNDAY: SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

2Titus 1:7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

If God has not given us a spirit of fear what are so many of Christs followers afraid much of the time?

What do you think most people fear?

Ephesians 4:26-27 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.

If we are not to let the sun go down on OUR anger, why is anger so normal in our families and churches?

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

If we are to be anxious about nothing, why are so many Christians anxious all the time?

Galatians 5:25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

If we are to put away comparisons and envy why is competition and jealousy so common among believers.

Philippians 2:14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing;

If complaining is forbidden from the mouths of Christ followers why is this such a common habit?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 Rejoice always; 17 Pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit

Why do you think a thankful joyous spirit is so rare?

What is at the heart issue these expressions reveal?

If fear, anger anxiety and envy can reveal what and who you cling to for security and happiness what do they point to in you?

What would keep you from surrendering your hold on certain people and things for peace and happiness?

Describe an experience where you had to say let go of a person or thing to go on with life.
