HIS-Story-Tempted Like Us-Tempted For Us

Dear Friends,

Temptation is something we all deal with. Temptations come in different ways and at different times as we move through life. We can be fooled and end up being the devil’s tool.

We face internal temptations no one would imagine. We face external temptations in the lives we lead.

Jesus understands and feels your struggle.

Jesus stands willing to help you. Jesus comes to deliver us from evil, but we must learn from His example and rely on His strength.

This Sunday if you are struggling with temptation or know someone who is please come and listen.

Take some time to read the following scriptures and consider the discussion questions.

Please attend one of the preaching services and then be part of a small group where you can talk through the following material.

If you attend the 9:30 A.M. service, we will have a question and answer time at the end also.

Can’t wait to see you.

Blessings,

Joe

PREPARING FOR SUNDAY: SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

PREPARING FOR SUNDAY-February 2, 2020

Tempted Like Us-Tempted For Us

Luke 4:1-13 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry. 3  And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” 4  And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE.” 5  And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7  “Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours.” 8  Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'” 9 And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; 10  for it is written, ‘HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU TO GUARD YOU,’ 11  and, ‘ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.'” 12  And Jesus answered and said to him, “It is said, ‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.'” 13  When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.

Is temptation a sin?

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

How much temptation is from the devil and how much us?

When are we most vulnerable to temptations?

Luke 4:1-3 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry. 3 And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

Do people choose the temptations they struggle with?

How are the temptations Jesus faced in the wilderness related to all

temptations?

What does God promise in the following passage?

1 Corinthians 10:12-14 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13  No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

What part does prayer play in resisting temptation?

Hebrews 4:14-16 Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us, therefore, draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help us in time of need.

Luke 22:46 and said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

How can we pray for you?
