Becoming Rock – What God Thinks of You

Who are you?
How do you define yourself?
Do you think about yourself through others opinions?
Do you define your value and identity through your successes or failures?
Do you think differently about yourself based on your possessions or how much approval you get?

Becoming the rock of stability God has planned for you will is greatly affected by how you answer these questions.  The people who become rocks have made what God thinks of them the foundation of their lives.  So what does God think of you?

The apostle Peter after all his struggles teaches how God thinks and feels about his followers. If you want to be surprised come this Sunday.  God does not want you to live in shame and defeat. God does not want you to live on the highs and lows of others approval. God wants you to know what He thinks of you and it is good!

Don’t miss this.

Blessings,
Joe,

PREPARING FOR SUNDAY: SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

PLEASE PRAYERFULLY READ THE SCRIPTURES AND PREPARE TO DISCUSS THE QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW.

1 Peter 2:1-10 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For this is contained in Scripture: “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone,” and, “A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE”; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. But you are A CHOSEN RACE, a royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.

  1. How would you describe yourself?  Why is this so hard to do?
  2. How does your thinking about yourself affect your life?

Pro 23:7   For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “Eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you.

  3. What does it mean when you are called living stones built in a spiritual house?

1Pe 2:5   you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

  4. Who is the builder and what is he building?
  5. How can God seeing you as a holy, royal priest help your friends and family?
  6. How can God use you as His holy priest?

1 Peter 2:5   you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

  7. How does being a follower of Jesus remove all racial divisions between you and all peoples?

1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, a royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.

  8. If you are a citizen of Gods holy nation where is your first allegiance?
  9. As Gods treasured possession what is your new purpose?

    1 Peter 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, a royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

  10. How can defining yourself as a receiver of mercy change you?
