SERMON LETTER

Dear Friends,

“Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” This is great advice but hard to do. Worry steals the joy out of our lives and stunts our souls. This Sunday I will show you what Jesus taught about moving into a life of no worries. I really pray you come. Remember we have the VBS picnic at the Toledo City Park after the 11 A.M. service. Please pray for me and for the services and classes.

Blessings,
Joe

PREPARING FOR SUNDAY: SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

  • How has anxiety touched your life?
  • What kind of things make people most anxious?
  • How can valuing the wrong things create worry?

Luk 10:40-42 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

  • In what ways does worry affect your close relationships?
  • How does worry choke your spirit and make you unfruitful?

Mark 4:19 but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

  • Describe how changing your focus can relieve worry?

Mat 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?

Mat 6:28-29 “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.

Php 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

  • What can worries show you about your security?

Mat 6:27 “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?
Mat 6:30 “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!

  • What does it mean to seek first Gods kingdom?

Mat 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

  • Does this verse mean you shouldn’t plan for anything?

Mat 6:34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
