Sunday Services:
Dear Friends,
The word gospel has become so widely used that its meaning is almost meaningless. Sometimes people use it as a way of affirming their honesty.” What I am telling you is the gospel truth.” Others think the term gospel is a reference to a genre of music. All these various uses are empty of what the church means and should be affirming.
The word gospel, when first used by Christians, was also commonly used in the culture. It referred to a proclamation of good news: a new emperor has risen, and he will begin to change everything as he extends his rule over his kingdom. You can see why Jesus and the early Christians used the gospel to communicate the good news about the risen Christ and his coming rule over the whole world.
Understanding what the Gospel of Jesus Christ is and what it isn’t is essential to sharing it clearly and seeing its power impact those around us. This Sunday, we start a short series culminating on easter titled “The Simple Gospel.” My prayer is that you will come and invite others to come and hear why this news really is good. The gospel still can change everything.
Romans 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.”
Invite, gather, and welcome. Make hospitality a part of your service by bringing others to breakfast. We will also witness a baptism as part of the 11:00 am service.
It is going to be really good news for us all.
Joe
